UGP 282 - Wait—what? Vince Gets Saved and THEN Serves an LDS Mission – Vince Grinstead — Part 1

For Vince, issues with the LDS church began at age 16 when his mom accused him of sleeping with a girlfriend; he wasn’t. He sincerely wanted to be trusted. His older sister had gotten emancipated from their LDS parents wanting freedom from all the rules. She introduced Vince to marijuana and he began doing drugs—eventually writing some bad checks. He notes that was the beginning of a pattern he’s now aware of and still struggles with: “When I get in big trouble, I run.” He ran, but a Christian cousin reached out to him. Vince’s mom arranged for a local LDS stake president to give him gas money to get home. The Wilders comment that Mormons tend go to their church for provision; Christians tend to go to their knees. Vince repented to his bishop, became active again, and prepared to serve an LDS mission. Before he served, a Christian friend studied the Bible with him and invited him to attend a Third Day Concert. Vince says he felt Jesus in an amazing way that night. What is this? What is happening right now? When Michael W. Smith sang his song, Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus in that huge stadium, Vince felt oddly like he was the only one there. Vince prayed and asked God into his heart. This prayer sounded odd to his LDS ears but it felt really good. That experience with Jesus was his guiding star even 2 years later on his LDS mission.
